We are delighted to announce that Frans will be leading a photo tour to Spitsbergen, Greenland, and Iceland next fall!  The trip has just been scheduled for September 3- 16, 2006, aboard the 46-passenger vessel Grigoriy Mikheev, a modern Arctic research vessel designed for expedition cruising.  This trip is organized by Wilderness Travel, and it is expected to fill very quickly.  The photo tour is limited to 20 participants.

The Friends of Long Marine Lab presented a Global Oceans Award to renowned nature photographer and conservationist Frans Lanting at the group's annual benefit event on March 20, 2005. The award recognizes Lanting for his outstanding contributions to the public awareness of the natural environment. The Global Oceans Awards were established in 2004 to recognize outstanding individuals who are making a difference for the world's oceans. Lanting, a Photographer-in-Residence at National Geographic, serves on the National Council of the World Wildlife Fund and is a Foundation Trustee of the University of California at Santa Cruz.
